311 day is an annual celebration by 311 and their fans that takes place on March 11th of every year.
Since 3-11-2000, 311 has played a biennial concert to celebrate the event in which they play a set much longer than the typical 311 show, and they play a variety of songs to please their hardcore fans.
Historical 311 Day Concerts
311 has played four 311 day shows, and a summary of each is below.
3-11 Day 2000
March 11th, 2000 marks the date of the first official 311 day concert at the State Palace Theatre in New Orleans, LA. On this day 311 played 47 songs, their longest setlist to date (see the setlist).
In addition to performing Bomb the Town for the first time live, this 311 day was the longest 311 concert to date.
3-11 Day 2002
On March 11th, 2002 311 played their second 311 day concert at the UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, LA. The band played 59 songs, 12 more than the first 311 day concert in 2000 (see the setlist).
This 311 day lasted for nearly four hours, and the band only took one 5 minute break! One highlight of the show was when 311 played Mindspin, a song many fans petitioned the band to play. Like their 2000 show, after completing this show 311 broke their record for their longest concert to date.
3-11 Day 2004
On March 11th, 2004 311 played their third 311 day concert, and their second consecutive 311 day at the UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, LA. The band played 68 songs, 9 more than the second 311 day concert in 2002 (see the setlist).
This 311 day lasted for five hours, and 311 again broke the record for their longest concert to date. Most fans consider this 311’s best 311 day, as five songs made their setlist debut: Seems Uncertain, Juan Bond, Outside, Sometimes Jacks Rule the Realm, and D’Yer Ma’Ker (a Led Zeppelin cover song). The band also played many songs that hadn’t been played recently, including Jupiter, which was last played in 1997!
To see 64 of the 68 songs 311 played on 3-11-2004 make sure you checkout the 311 Day 2004 DVD.
3-11 Day 2006
On March 11th, 2006 311 played their fourth 311 day concert at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, TN. This was the first 311 day to take place outside of New Orleans, as 311 was forced to find an alternate location for 311 day due to the damage the UNO Lakefront Arena sustained during Hurricane Katrina that had yet to be repaired.
311 tried their best to break their record for longest concert, but the band fell short as they were only able to play 65 out of a planned 69 songs due to Mid-South Coliseum’s curfew. 311 didn’t disappoint, though, as the show lasted a total of 5 hours, and the band played a lot of rare songs, notably Down South (last played in 1991), This Too Shall Pass (last played in 1993), and a block of eight songs from Transistor.
